IPFW Writing Center's explanation of the review of literature part of a research paper's introduction.
Tips for Finding Economic Data
Tip #1 Ask the question “Who would need to know this
on a regular basis?” The answer may be a
government agency, consumer group, or trade association. Most government agencies or departments have
data or statistic pages linked to their Web sites. Many trade associations collect data but do
not freely publish it.
Tip #2 Plan ahead. When possible, plan your research project to match the data available. Knowing and using common economic indicators will increase the chances of finding the data you need. See : Guide to Economic Indicators
Tip #3 Be flexible about the details. Often the data you find will be for a larger population or geographic area, or not available in the detail you wanted. Avoid this problem by following Tip #2
