What is the TOOLbox?

The TOOLbox is divided into three major sections: Blueprints, Building Supplies, and Prefab.  The documents included in these sections are designed to, first, help establish a customized framework for an overall outreach focus, and second, build a foundation for more specific outreach events.ILLAlogo
The Blueprints section focuses on getting your ducks in a row.  Just as a builder uses blueprints to know what a house will look like and provide guidelines for its building process, this section allows librarians to create a tangible vision of their outreach event.  In this section, planning materials will provide guidance for articulating the purpose of an outreach event and developing a course of action as well as identifying stakeholders.

The Building Supplies section is filled with worksheets, inventories, and other useful tools to help implement the plan created in the blueprints section.  These tools are available in an a la carte format so that a librarian can pick which will work best for their situation.  For larger, more complicated outreach undertakings, all of the tools may be utilized.  For a more modest event, perhaps only one or two items from this section may be appropriate.

The Prefab section will allow the truly time-strapped librarian to virtually avoid the Blueprint and Building sections altogether.  This section includes pre-planned outreach events that can be implemented with very little time investment.  These “prefab” events represent the variety of outreach opportunities that can be implemented by academic, school, or public libraries.  Just find the one that fits your situation best, and all the planning is ready to go right out of the box.
